How To Make Your Self-Care More Than Just Skin-Deep

How To Make Your Self-Care More Than Just Skin-Deep

Taking care of yourself is not just about what goes on your body, but also what you put into it. Being mindful of your emotional wellbeing is just as important as using the best skincare products, practicing good hygiene or eating will. Your internal world often affects your external world, so taking a broader, more holistic approach to your self-care is incredibly beneficial.

Below are a few simple habits to start today for self-care that is more than just skin-deep.

Self-Care Starts with Sleep

Having a good night’s sleep is vital for your mental and physical wellness. Sleep is when your body heals and your mind consolidates memories from the previous day. Finding a bedtime routine that works best for you and sticking to it has been proven to drastically improve overall health.  Getting adequate rest and sleep at night aiming for good quality and good quantity sleep to help you wake up looking refreshed and ready for the day. Not enough sleep can lead to signs of premature aging and fatigue which affects your appearance and performance.  It is important that you sleep at least 7 hours a night to maintain a strong immune system and effective cognition. Getting enough sleep will allow your body to repair itself and recover from the day, which in turn helps to improve your general health and appearance — beauty sleep.

Prioritize Physical and Emotional Wellness Habits

There’s no denying that moving your body regularly is important for your mental and physical health. However, making sure to practice emotional wellness habits is just as important for your overall wellness. Working with a therapist or dedicating some time throughout your day to journal are simple ways to relieve mental stress and feel better. Emotional unease can take a toll on your physical health, so be sure to factor it into your self-care habits

Do The Things You Love

The best way to really practice self-care is by doing all the things you truly love. That could be taking long walks, watching movies, eating delicious food…the list goes on! While practicing mindful habits to maintain your health is important, there aren’t any strict rules when it comes to taking care of yourself. What you love doing and what feels good will always make you glow from the inside out.
